JOB OVERVIEW:Process all soiled hotel bed linens, terry, and food and beverage table linens by operating all laundry/dry cleaning machinery in accordance to hotel's standards. Clean, press, and finish staff and guest garments. REPORTS TO: Housekeeping Supervisor WORK ENVIRONMENT:Laundry and linen rooms, linen chute area, and service landings.Job involves working: Under variable temperature conditions (or extreme heat or cold). Under variable noise levels. Outdoors/indoors. Around fumes and/or odor hazards. Around dust and/or mite hazards. Around chemicals.KEY RELATIONSHIPS:Internal: Staff in Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Uniformed Hotel Personnel, Hotel Management and Engineering.External: Hotel Guests, Laundry Equipment Repair Personnel, Chemical Company Representatives.QUALIFICATIONSEssential:1. Ability to count.2. Ability to: Willing to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy. Ability to prioritize and organize tasks. Ability to think clearly, can remain calm, and solve problems using good judgment. Ability to follow specific directions thoroughly. Desire to understand guests' service needs. Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.3. Satisfactorily communicate with guests, management, and co-workers to ensure understanding.Desirable:1. High school graduate or equivalent vocational training.2. Fluency in English both verbal and non-verbal.3. Previous experience in similar position.4. Knowledge of laundry/dry cleaning equipment and chemical handling.5. Knowledge of finishing techniques for all types of fabrics.6. Knowledge of proper chemical handling.7. Fluency in a foreign language, preferably Spanish.8. Previous guest relations training.PHYSICAL ABILITIESEssential:1. Exert physical effort in transporting up to 100 lbs.2. Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.3. Reach 5 feet.4. Remain in stationary position for 8 hours throughout work shift.Desirable:ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS1. Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards. Respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, no matter how busy or the time of day.2. Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.3. Anticipate guests' needs, 4. Maintain positive guest relations at all times.5. Greet all guests using 15/5 rule.6. Be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately.7. Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.8. Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas.9. Use cleaning chemicals according to OSHA regulations and hotel requirements.10. Adhere to all Health Department, sanitation, and safety regulations.11. Set up and organize work station with designated supplies and equipment; replenish as needed throughout the shift.12. Monitor usage of chemicals and water to maximize consumption.13. Separate soiled bed linen/terry/food and beverage table linens; bundle and document amounts of each bundle.14. Sort all stained/damaged items and determine status for rewash or discard; maintain continuous inventory of discard items.15. Remove all debris on floors after each sorting.16. Operate all laundry machines and add designated chemicals in accordance with specified amounts, times and temperatures for the particular articles to be washed.17. Remove washed articles from the washing machine when the cycle is complete. Inspect cleanliness and place in clean linen carts.18. Transport cart of washed linen to dryers and place in dryers according to load size. Set dryers to designated times and temperatures for the particular articles to be dried.19. Remove articles from dryer when cycle is complete and place in clean linen cart. Transport cart to proper work area for finishing.20. Fold cleaned articles and stack into designated amounts by type and size. Place stacks in specified areas for distribution.21. Issue clean table linens and service towels/rags to Food and Beverage personnel.22. Report faulty equipment, damaged garments/linens, shortages, maintenance needs, safety hazards, and problems to supervisor.23. Remove lint and debris from dryer filters and change filters.30. Transport trash containers to dumpster; empty and clean accordingly. Adhere to recycling procedures.31. Breakdown and clean work areas/equipment.32. Use designated chemicals, supplies, and equipment to clean laundry room floor.33. Restock work areas for next shift as assigned.SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Complete inventory of stock as assigned.2. Work with chemical and machine repair personnel to repair machines, improve quality or standards, increase productivity or capacity of machines.3. Ensure equipment receives periodic preventative maintenance.STANDARD SPECIFICATIONSRequirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills, and/or abilities.
